The Christmas Number One (2 replies)

So I really miss-represented my own views in this weeks' show and I wanted to set the record straighter on here.

The reason I care about Rage winning isn't because I care about the charts, its that it demonstrates the incredible power the Internet has, that real regular people have.

I'm a big fan of flashmobs as a kind of socialist-meets-anarchist with self depreciating irony and that's basically what this campaign was, a flashmob of buying. They represent people being people and being able to do what the fuck they want and that lots of people doing these things together is much better than 1 person doing it alone, because they get heard.

For years I've been waiting for out counter-culture revolution to come. Where's our Hippies? Our Punks? We don't have them. Flashmobs to me represent this in the 21st century and this week they did something that actually had an observable affect on the world we live in. In affected people's wallets and their radios and made things happen that otherwise wouldn't have.

Because two people started a Facebook group.

That's incredible and it should be celebrated.
