The last mission in Mass Effect 2 (SPOILERS) (no replies)

Before I write anything here I repeat:

There will be big game ruining spoilers

Ok, so I finished Mass Effect 2 a few days ago and it was a great game throughout, but one thing which stood out for me above all else was the final mission. The fact that I had got to know my team over 20 hours of play and 2 character speciffic missions each, only to discover that they could be wrenched away from me if I made the wrong choices or didn't fight well enough really drew me into the game. It was a great mechanic and uniquely amoung all of the games I have played added a real feeling that what I was doing mattered, made me genually affraid that I wouldn't be up to scratch and charcters I cared about would be killed.

I should add here that I played the game on insane first run through, so everything was a challenge and there was a real risk of loosing people; for example on that bit where you have to release heat in the pipe your computer expert is crawling through. I lost thane because I sent him through the pipe and the door jammed.

I'd love to hear some other peoples thoughts on this; What did you think of the game/ending? Has this game mechanic been used in other places? How on earth are they going to continue the story in Mass Effect 3 when it divulged into so many threads?

The Christmas Number One (2 replies)

So I really miss-represented my own views in this weeks' show and I wanted to set the record straighter on here.

The reason I care about Rage winning isn't because I care about the charts, its that it demonstrates the incredible power the Internet has, that real regular people have.

I'm a big fan of flashmobs as a kind of socialist-meets-anarchist with self depreciating irony and that's basically what this campaign was, a flashmob of buying. They represent people being people and being able to do what the fuck they want and that lots of people doing these things together is much better than 1 person doing it alone, because they get heard.

For years I've been waiting for out counter-culture revolution to come. Where's our Hippies? Our Punks? We don't have them. Flashmobs to me represent this in the 21st century and this week they did something that actually had an observable affect on the world we live in. In affected people's wallets and their radios and made things happen that otherwise wouldn't have.

Because two people started a Facebook group.

That's incredible and it should be celebrated.

Go get the Orange Box already!) then you'll definitely want to check out this recent mod, Research and Development.

It's set in the HL2 world but is an adventure game rather than an action game, you never pick up a weapon and work through the levels solving puzzles using the incredible physics engine that Source provides. It's not particularly long and only suffers from a couple of frustrating bits, and of course, it's free!

So get to it already:

Street Evangelists (2 replies)

The thing that currently pisses me off the most is people who decide it is their business to walk around and talk to me about Jesus on the street. If you're both a christian and a normal person, I'm sorry that these people give your religion a bad name. But if you are one of these evangelist types, screw off. Just this evening, three people walked up to me in the street and started telling me how because I've felt feelings of hatred and lust in the past, in Jesus's eyes I am a murderer and an adulterer. When they started asking my mom to talk about her experiences with lust in front of my ten year old sister, we just walked away.

Anyway, there's my story. On a side note, I've heard that religion is less of a big deal over in the UK. Does that mean these pricks are more rare over there? I certainly hope so.
